AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING
Tuesday and Thursday, 5:15-7:15 pm
Upon enrolling in various schools, New American children often find it difficult to keep up with their teachers' expectations and assignments. Through the efforts of volunteer tutors, the After School Tutoring program helps them develop the skills and confidence needed to address this challenge effectively. Classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Peace Center, during which snacks and brief devotions are also provided.
Volunteers can come on Tuesday or Thursday, or only as their schedule allows. Tutor works one-on-one or with a small group of students, ranging in age from 5 to 18. Experience working with students is great, but not required. Tutor helps with homework, English, reading, writing, and basic numeracy skills. Can also assist with student supervision during recreation, meal, and chapel/devotion time. Students arrive by 5:15 and depart by 7:15 p.m.
Kitchen Help
Oversee serving and cleaning up. Meal is provided - no kitchen skills required. Arrive by 5:20 and leave when the kitchen is clean (around 6:20 p.m.) Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.
