CFNA at LWML
/CFNA Exhibits and Shares Ministry Work at the LWML Missouri District Convention
Christian Friends of New Americans was blessed to participate in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Missouri District Convention held in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, June 12–14. The Convention, organized around the theme “Rooted” (Col. 2:7) saw many faithful Lutheran women gather around God’s word, prayer, Christ-centered Speakers, and mission agencies that highlighted their work. Through two ministry booths, CFNA had the opportunity to share the story of Christ’s work among refugees and immigrants while also showcasing the beautiful handmade creations of the Afghan women who participate in our Wednesday Sewing Ministry. LWML Convention attendees enjoyed browsing and purchasing handcrafted bags, aprons, and kitchen items, while learning how this ministry provides fellowship, practical skills, encouragement, and hope for women building new lives in St. Louis.
Throughout the convention, many of LWML delegates stopped by to learn more about CFNA’s ministry. Many offered prayers, words of encouragement, signed up for CFNA E-news, and gave speaker invitations to share the ministry with their congregations. Visitors were especially moved to hear how God has worked through partnerships with Lutheran churches to bring the Gospel to New Americans, resulting in more than 250 baptisms from 13 birth nations over the years. The sewing display also drew enthusiastic support, with many repeat customers returning to purchase additional items and others discovering the ministry for the very first time.
Sewing ‘Project’ creator Shirley Drown, who led the booth at the LWML Convention, was encouraged by the ladies’ show of support for CFNA’s Christ-driven sewing ministry among Muslim Afghan women– “The strong interest and encouragement shown at the convention affirmed the value of the sewing program and the meaningful opportunities it provides for fellowship, skill-building, and support.”
We thank God for the partnership and encouragement of the LWML and look forward to continuing these relationships as we share Christ's love with New Americans. We are also excited for the opportunity to participate in the 2027 LWML National Convention in Oklahoma City, where we hope to introduce even more people to the life-changing ministry taking place through CFNA.
