CFNA Hosts Its First Grand Market!

Editor’s note: In this article, Catherine Stanish (daughter of Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Stanley Stanish) provides readers insight into a new ministry expansion campaign at CFNA: The Grand Market. Thanks to our move to the larger building and space provided, vendors and community members are able to experience an outdoor market to support CFNA’s mission now and in the future.

On Saturday, November 15th, Christian Friends of New Americans hosted our first-ever Grand Market at our new ministry center at 5515 South Grand Blvd, and the day was a beautiful reminder of what God can do when a community comes together. This Grand Market was the first of many monthly markets to come, and it set a strong foundation for a new chapter of ministry at our new South Grand location.

What made this market truly special were the people behind the booths. Each table was run not only by CFNA volunteers and staff, but also by community members and families who CFNA’s ministry has touched. The vendors offered a variety of items, including ethnic food and clothing, crocheted animals, and handmade bags from CFNA’s Sewing Program. Past ESL students and a few volunteer families hosted booths to give back to their community. These booths weren’t just displays; they were stories. Each one represented a family’s journey, their skills, their culture, and their desire to participate in a place where they feel welcome and valued.

As guests walked through the market, you could see the joy of connection happening in real time. People paused to hear how a craft was made, learn the meaning behind cultural items, or simply share a smile with someone from a different background. For some, this was their very first introduction to CFNA, and they discovered that the ministry behind this welcoming marketplace is the same one offering ESL classes, tutoring, youth support, and friendship to immigrant and refugee families across St. Louis.

The Grand Market acted as a warm gathering place where people who had never heard of CFNA could meet our community, see our mission in action, and experience genuine hospitality. This simple beginning opened doors for future relationships and sparked new curiosity in our ministry.

We know that this market is only the beginning. There is so much more we can do with this monthly event, and we want to invite and encourage more community members to join us. Whether by hosting a booth, sharing a craft or talent, or simply showing up to support others, there is room for everyone to participate. The Grand Market is a growing opportunity to connect, serve, and share the love of Jesus with our neighbors in simple, meaningful ways.

As we look ahead, our hearts are full of gratitude and excitement. The first Grand Market was a beautiful start, and we trust that the months to come will bring new vendors, new faces, new cultures, and new opportunities to build relationships rooted in service and God’s love!
