CFNA’s 19th Annual Trivia Night Highlights Impact

Christian Friends of New Americans welcomed a record number of trivia players (around 270 participants) to Lutheran High School South on Saturday, April 11th for the 19th annual Trivia Night and Silent Auction. Thirty-Five teams competed while fellowshipping and raising funds for the important ministry of CFNA.

Along with answering questions and bidding on auction items, those in attendance got to hear about the different ministries of CFNA throughout the evening. One ministry that was highlighted this year is the CFNA ESL and Driving program. Language and Driving are two significant barriers many of our New American friends face.

Fekadu, one of those friends, is a New American from Ethiopia where he never needed to learn to drive. He participated in our ESL and Driving program and finally passed the Missouri driver’s exam on his fourth attempt. Fekadu spoke at the Trivia and Silent Auction event, saying “This gives me independence…to work and take care of my needs. I am thankful to everybody at CFNA who taught me and helped me get my license.”

We are deeply thankful for the twenty volunteers who worked to make the evening a success, including members of the volunteer Trivia Committee, CFNA staff people, Board members, students, and friends.

The event was sponsored by Al & Carol Buckman, Ascension Lutheran Church, Concordia Lutheran Church, Ed & Lisa Holderle, Jim & Vickie Dankenbring, Judith & David Meyer, Lutheran High School South, Matt & Christy Hoehner,  Messiah Lutheran Church, Resurrection Lutheran Church, Ted Drewes, Telle Tire, Thrivent, Tom & Joyce McCain, the Tuesday at Two small group from Webster Gardens Lutheran Church, and Patrick Lodes.

By God’s grace, the evening was a great success, raising over $22,000 to support CFNA’s ongoing ministry. We give thanks to all who participated and made this night a meaningful expression of working together in mission - “For we are co-workers in God’s service…” (1 Cor. 3:9)
