Christmas Party!

The children were bustling, and the volunteers were caring on December 12 at Epiphany Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Missouri for the 10th annual CFNA Tutoring Christmas party.

Our numerous tutors help with homework, mastering English, reading, writing, and basic number skills, etc. during tutoring sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the school year. On December 12 we celebrated with a wonderful Christmas party in which more than 50 students and 45 volunteers and special guests participated.

Ms. Jen, who leads our Tuesday evening sessions, did a fantastic job of organizing activities such as crafts, games, and coloring for our friends as they began arriving  at 4:30. Around 6:00 pm everyone was invited to share a meal of lentils, rice, turkey, and salad.

Afterward we went upstairs into the Sanctuary where Ms. Jen’s homeschool group led us in a short presentation in the meaning of several Christmas hymns. Then Pastor Tim Staffeld led us in a devotion reminding everyone Jesus is the greatest gift that we can receive.

Every participant, including the volunteer workers, was provided with a gift. Before departure, the students were given an opportunity to say “thank you” to their tutors and all the volunteers.  Our thanks also, to the Umetulisha food service for the excellent meal and to Christ Community Lutheran School and Christ Memorial Lutheran Church for all the gifts that were provided for the students and their families!
