From the Health and Wellness Clinic

Health and Wellness at CFNA continues to host clinics every second Saturday of the month, with the exception of June, July, and August. We are very fortunate to have dedicated volunteers who are invaluable in providing the care and support needed for those we serve.

Recently, a client who received a basic eye exam discovered she needed reading glasses to improve her vision. The clinic maintains an assortment of reading glasses in varying strengths, and she was very pleased that we were able to provide her with a pair that allowed her to read fine print clearly again. Naomi’s excitement was very evident when she got her glasses – “In Haiti I had glasses, but now I don’t have them …but today I am very happy because I got glasses and also a case to store them. Thank you so much.” On occasion, the clinic also provides “readers” for participants in the sewing group and for student drivers preparing for their permit exams.

A new resource has recently been introduced through Affinia Healthcare that will be a great asset to those using Affinia providers. Clients with scheduled Affinia appointments can now receive a free ride to their medical visits. To access this service, clients may call 314-797-0122 one to two hours prior to their scheduled appointment time. Representatives from Affinia visited the Peace Center earlier this month and spoke with the Wednesday sewing group about how to use the service and access this helpful resource.

CFNA’s Health program is also strengthening the infrastructure of our ministry in order to serve people more effectively. Recently, through the Health program, CFNA purchased an AED for the Peace Center. An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a user-friendly device designed to save lives during sudden cardiac arrest. It analyzes the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, delivers an electric shock to help restore a normal heartbeat and re-establish blood flow. We are grateful to have this equipment available should the need arise, and many staff members have now received training in its use.

Looking ahead, Dr. Cheryl Davidson from “The Center for Vision and Learning” has graciously agreed to conduct a vision clinic once again at the Peace Center. The eye exam clinic is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Those wishing to schedule an eye exam are encouraged to speak with any CFNA staff member to sign up.

Through simple acts of care, whether providing reading glasses, transportation assistance, life-saving equipment, or vision screenings; CFNA’s Health and Wellness ministry continues to reflect Christ’s compassion in practical ways. As Scripture reminds us, “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:4).
